A test menu designed for employer wellness programs

The PicMed employer biometric and lab test menu gives benefits leaders a structured choice between immediate-result screening, venipuncture reference-lab testing, and vital-sign measurement. The right configuration depends on the workforce, event format, participation goals, incentive design, budget, location count, and the type of participant experience the employer intends to provide.

PicMed does not force every population into one panel. A compact, immediate-result menu may fit an onsite event where throughput and results education are priorities. A broader reference-lab panel may fit a clinically focused campaign or an employer seeking additional aggregate population insight. Programs can pair testing with the health risk assessment for employers and MyPicMed reporting.

Clinical testing is governed by method and setting. PicMed uses CLIA-waived point-of-care testing for applicable immediate-result services and CLIA-certified reference laboratories for selected venipuncture panels. The CMS CLIA program sets federal quality standards for laboratory testing. Final test selection, availability, client communications, and any pricing are documented as your program scope and pricing needs.

“Typical clinical use” describes screening context, not a diagnosis. Test availability, suitability, fasting requirements, participant eligibility, and follow-up language should be reviewed for each employer program.

Fingerstick point-of-care testing: immediate results at the event

Fingerstick point-of-care (POC) screening gives participants an immediate result and education during an onsite event. It supports efficient scheduled or shift-based appointments. A PicMed clinician collects the specimen, performs the approved test, records the result, and provides participant education within scope.

Lipid panel: total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides

The core lipid menu includes total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. Together, these measures provide a familiar starting point for cardiovascular-risk education. The employer receives only approved aggregate reporting, while the participant receives their own screening information and appropriate next-step guidance.

PicMed uses the employer-approved panel and clearly communicates any preparation instructions. Some lipid measures can be influenced by fasting status and the testing method. The event communication plan should therefore state whether fasting is requested, optional, or not part of the program and avoid promising a clinical diagnosis from a workplace screen.

Glucose and HbA1c

Blood glucose gives a point-in-time measurement. HbA1c reflects a longer-term glucose pattern, which can make it valuable in an employer screening program focused on cardiometabolic awareness. The American Diabetes Association identifies A1C and plasma-glucose tests among the measures used in clinical diabetes diagnosis. In PicMed’s employer setting, the tests are screening measures and should be paired with clear instructions to seek follow-up from a personal clinician when appropriate.

hs-CRP and ALT/AST

High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) can provide inflammation-related context; ALT and AST are liver enzymes that may be included in a selected POC menu. These tests should not be marketed as standalone wellness scores. PicMed incorporates the employer-approved test explanation and participant education so the onsite experience remains accurate and respectful of clinical limits.

Venipuncture reference-lab testing: expanded panels with laboratory turnaround

Venipuncture supports more extensive panels processed by a CLIA-certified reference laboratory. PicMed confirms expected timing and participant communications before launch. This option requires careful event flow, specimen handling, results posting, and follow-up messaging.

Basic metabolic panel plus complete blood count

The basic metabolic panel (BMP) plus complete blood count (CBC) offers broad chemistry and blood-count context. Employers may select this panel when they want a more comprehensive laboratory-based view within an approved wellness campaign. The aggregate reporting plan must still be designed to prevent identification of individuals, especially in smaller locations or demographic segments.

Advanced lipid panel with LPP particle size

An advanced lipid panel with LPP particle size offers deeper lipid characterization than the core POC profile. It is appropriate only when the employer’s program objectives, clinical communication plan, and reference-lab process support that level of testing. Employers should not assume that a more detailed panel is automatically a better engagement strategy; participants need a clear explanation of what is included and how results will be delivered.

Inflammatory panel: ESR, hs-CRP, and homocysteine

This panel combines erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), hs-CRP, and homocysteine for inflammatory and cardiovascular-risk context. Values require interpretation in the participant’s own clinical context; PicMed directs appropriate follow-up rather than suggesting the employer is assessing disease risk.

Thyroid, vitamin D, and hormone panels

The thyroid option includes TSH plus a full thyroid panel. Vitamin D testing uses the 25-hydroxy measure, which the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements identifies as the main indicator of vitamin D status. PicMed also offers a female hormone panel—FSH, estradiol, and testosterone—and a male panel—PSA, total testosterone, and DHEA—through the reference-lab workflow.

These selections need careful governance. Before selecting them, stakeholders should consider communications, privacy controls, eligibility, laboratory turnaround, and the path for personal follow-up. PicMed provides the selected workflow, secure results process, and aggregate reporting—not individual-result disclosure to the employer.

Vitals: essential context for every selected panel

Vitals provide the foundation for many onsite screenings: height, weight, BMI, waist circumference, and resting blood pressure. They are immediate and can pair with POC or reference-lab testing.

Resting blood pressure is particularly important because it supports a basic cardiovascular-risk conversation. The ACC/AHA hypertension guideline provides the clinical classification framework; a single workplace measurement should not be represented as a diagnosis. PicMed’s clinicians follow the selected protocol, document the result, and provide participant-facing education and escalation guidance within scope.

Optional cotinine testing can be included where it supports an approved tobacco-related program. The purpose, method, privacy handling, permitted use, incentive implications, and alternative processes should be defined before launch. Employers should have counsel review any design that connects a tobacco test to plan eligibility or an incentive.

How to choose between POC, reference-lab, and combined delivery

Start with the program objective and participant experience. Immediate POC results support event education; reference-lab panels require secure, results-pending communication. Then match the menu to staffing, specimen handling, appointment duration, and turnaround. Set privacy, aggregate-reporting, follow-up, and HRA or incentive rules before launch.

The strongest test menu is the one benefits, HR, clinical operations, privacy, and the employee communication plan can execute well.

Delivery, reporting, and billing

PicMed delivers selected menus nationwide through W-2 RNs and LPNs. Standard planning is 6–8 weeks, with a 2–3 week compressed delivery assessment for scopes that can be responsibly staffed and communicated. Employers may choose direct or insurance billing based on direct invoice or insurance billing.

MyPicMed supports participation, HRA integration, incentive tracking, and aggregate reporting. PicMed can also coordinate an approved pharmacy-voucher workflow and applicable state pharmacy board compliance.

For broader service planning, review onsite biometric screening and workplace health screenings. Both pages explain how the test menu fits within a complete employer wellness delivery model.
